What It Does
The Plot Hole Detector uses AI to scan your manuscript for logical inconsistencies, timeline errors, contradictions, and gaps in story logic that could confuse or frustrate readers.
It identifies issues like characters forgetting information they should know, objects appearing in impossible locations, contradictory character motivations, timeline conflicts, and unexplained events. Perfect for maintaining narrative coherence in complex stories with multiple plot threads, timelines, or POV characters.
How to Use It
Select Your Project
Choose the manuscript you want to check for plot inconsistencies from your project library.
Select AI Model
Choose an AI model tier. Higher tiers are better at catching subtle inconsistencies and complex logical gaps.
- • Tier 1: Good for obvious plot holes and timeline issues
- • Tier 2: Catches more nuanced inconsistencies
- • Tier 3: Comprehensive analysis including complex logic chains
Run Detection
Click "Detect Holes" and the AI will analyze your entire manuscript for inconsistencies. Analysis time: 45-120 seconds.
Review Findings
Examine the detected issues organized by severity and category:
- Timeline Conflicts: Events that don't align chronologically
- Character Knowledge Issues: Characters knowing things they shouldn't
- Physical Impossibilities: Objects or people in impossible locations
- Unexplained Events: Plot developments without proper setup
- Contradictions: Statements or facts that conflict with earlier information
Fix and Re-check
Address the identified issues in your manuscript, then run the detector again to verify fixes and catch any new inconsistencies.
Estimated Credit Usage
Credit consumption depends on manuscript length and AI model tier:
Short Story
~5,000 words
Novella
~20,000 words
Novel
~80,000 words
Pro Tip
Run detection on individual chapters or sections first to save credits, then do a full manuscript scan before final publication.
Best Practices
Run Early and Often
Check for plot holes during your revision process, not just at the end. Catching issues early makes them easier to fix.
Focus on Complex Sections
Pay special attention to multi-POV chapters, time jumps, and plot twists—these are where inconsistencies often hide.
Keep a Story Bible
Maintain a reference document with key facts, dates, and rules of your story world. Cross-check AI findings against your notes.
Don't Over-Correct
Not every flagged issue is a real problem. Use your judgment—some "inconsistencies" may be intentional mysteries or character flaws.
